Connecting kiwi kids to Ugandan orphans to plant seeds of hope via education, letter writing, sustainability, sport, dance & shared passions

Nelson

My name is Matt Robinson, I am a teacher at Nayland College.

In 2021 I lost two friends to cancer, Sean Thomas & Suzi Keepa.

Sean was one of the founders of Big Brothers Big Sisters New Zealand, & Suzi was a Guidance Councillor at Nayland College. Both believed that supporting young people was our best bet at improving the world we all share.

One of the first young people Sean helped was a 10 year old boy named Franco who was living in a Ugandan AIDS Orphanage in 2000. Franco is now passing this on by supporting a growing family of orphans in his village of Nakikoota, Luwero, Uganda. He has one son of his own named Sean Thomas Sempagala ("baby Sean").

Sean and Suzi are the inspiration for the charity "Suzi Seeds in Sean's Footsteps". All Funds will go towards educating the orphans in Franco's village who he is able to support due to the hand up he was given by Sean almost 20 years ago.

I will leave you with two sentiments from Sean & Suzi.

“It is only the virtue of one’s birth that separates the haves from the have nots; the hungry from the fed. Pay forward what good fortune you have been given” Sean Thomas

“Just keep planting those seeds of hope, you never know when they’ll take root & grow” Suzi Keepa

Please email me at suziseeds@gmail.com if you would like to sponsor an orphan’s education directly from $23/week. You will be in direct contact with them & will get to see them grow up safe, healthy, & educated.

Before Sean passed away, I agreed to continue his work in Uganda. While healthy Sean payed for all the orphans education & facilitated letter writing with kiwi kids. This is my way of paying forward the gifts Sean & Suzi gave me during our time together.

Use of funds

Providing the gift of education to orphans in the village of Nakikookta, Luwero, Uganda. Kiwi kids will connect to these seeds of hope in Uganda by planting native trees in NZ, though letter exchanges & shared passions like sport, dance, & conservation.

Visit to Uganda!  8 August 2022

Kia ora koutou!

Firstly, thank you all for your support, I have been blown away by the generosity and support I have received from all corners of the world and all walks of life. Sean and Suzi touched so many lives and left the world a better place in so many ways and this has shone though in the willingness of those they leave behind to help others.

In the last school holidays I was lucky enough to add a visit to Uganda on to a trip to my home country of Zimbabwe and as such got to meet Franco and his BIG family!

I arrived in Entebbe, Uganda - the former capital - and spent a day there before driving to the new capital Kampala where I met with a fellow Rotary member to discuss how best to support the children moving forward. I then travelled to Luwerro for an emotional reunion with Franco and the children. I spent 3 days with them in Luweero which was magical. Such an awesome opportunity to see how they live and spend time with them. They are a lovely bunch of kids who are all happy, healthy, and very glad to be going to school every week 😊 I feel very privileged to have been able to visit and see first hand the benefits such we have collectively been able to make in their lives. They are a truly inspiring group of young people who are making the most out of every opportunity they are given.
