Sugary drinks are making our kids sick! Sweet Rebellion is a group campaigning for a sugary beverage tax.
Auckland
Did you know that 60% of 4 year olds in NZ consumed fizzy drinks in the last month and 5% consume it EVERY DAY. No wonder there’s a childhood obesity epidemic! Sugary drinks contribute to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and dental problems. The sugary beverage industry wants your money and is killing you sweetly to get it. Taxes on sugary beverages work while initiatives to educate people and inspire lifestyle changes are ineffective.
It's time to take back control from the big companies who are destroying your health and to push your government to work for you. It's time for a Sweet Rebellion!
Sweet Rebellion is an initiative developed by "Students With a Social Conscience", a group of medical students who are aiming to make New Zealand a healthier place to live. We are campaigning for our government to put in place a tax on sugary drinks. Recently, we took part in a week-long intensive aiming to devise a public health strategy to address childhood obesity. We were so shocked by by the evidence that we uncovered that we felt compelled to do something to help.
With your help, we will raise public awareness of this important issue and lobby the government to change their policy and put a sugary drink tax in place.
So givealittle to our revolution and join our Sweet Rebellion!
We are "Students With a Social Conscience" a group of medical students who were inspired to take action after participating in a group project looking at ways to combat childhood obesity.
Funds raised will be used for costs associated with campaigning including advertising (social media and otherwise), promotional materials, hiring staff on short term contracts (lobbyist and marketing coordinator), and overheads (resources for staff).
