Through their initiative #TAGTONGA, AW provides a community-humanitarian approach to ensure that donor's funds go directly to those in need.
Auckland
On the 15th of January 2022, a massive volcanic eruption which triggered a tsunami in Tonga caused calamitous damage, with villages and homes destroyed. As the people of Tonga are still rebuilding from a catastrophic disaster, Affirming Works (AW) has reactivated its #TAGTONGA initiative to support the people of Tonga and help them recover and rebuild with the help of our team based in Tonga.
#TAGTONGA is a community-led aid initiative set up by AW in New Zealand with staff on the ground in Tonga to ensure your donation is directly given to your cause to rebuild Tonga. Donors can TAG a village, family and the purpose of their contribution through a specific cause or project. AW will provide evidence of direct spending and reporting to our aid partners to enable transparency and accountability of donations made.
Donors will also get the option of donating towards a food parcel or educational supply for their families/friends or to those most affected in Tonga. One food parcel is worth $110 and one educational supply is worth $170.
When you donate to Give A Little on the TAGTONGA site, please write on the message for your donation to whom you would like to donate and contact number, if possible. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to email our #TAGTONGA team at office@affirmingworks.org.nz.
Affirming Works (AW) have served the Pacific communities for over 20 years, working amongst Pacific nations in a community-led humanitarian response to disasters. It has developed #TAGTONGA for donors to track their donations directly to families.
With the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano eruption and tsunami in January this year, Affirming Works responded through the reactivation of #TAGTONGA in which donations from the Pacific diaspora went towards the rebuild and recovery in Tonga.
