Tainui's Journey

  • Home sweet home

      12 November 2015

Tainui has been out of hospital for almost two weeks now and has spent 5 nights in his own bed. Much to his and the families delight. It is a blessing to see him everyday now in his own environment sorounded by loving friends and family.

A huge thank you to Paengaroa School who held a special day in support for the All Blacks RWC final but also for Tainui by inviting children to donate, so they too could help on this page. Also Te Puke High School who held a mufti day and Tainui's older brother & cousin who organised a sausage sizzle. You are all truly amazing and words can't express how grateful we really are.

Tainui is progressing well to date. He has some of his boysterous nature back but is still a little timid in some circumstances, as we would expect. He has to apply cream to his scaring twice a day, which he is starting to do himself, he is not allowed any sun exposure (to his face) so must be well covered.

We are due another trip up to Middlemore to see the eye specialist and Plastic Surgeon within the next week.

He has seen himself and has asked a few questions and can remember a few things from the day but still dosnt fully know what happened.

As a family we will help him get through this as he requires and questions us but for now we are just looking forward, staying positive and embracing all the love and support from our own community and afar. Even the little messages we have been receiving means so much to us.

    God Bless. Arohamai nui. Xxx

  • Day 14

      25 October 2015

Tainui answered the phone when I rang this morning. Was very emotional but also exciting to hear his voice. Most of his words I could hear clearly so amazed at how far he has come in a short amount of time considering the extensive damage he received.

Mum and Poppa are eager to get home but will find out more on Tuesday when all the specialists visit with him.

So fingers crossed and will let ya all know. Xx

  • Day 12

      23 October 2015

Thank you to everyone that has donated so far. Your generosity has touched us and we are so humble.

Sorry I haven't posted until now so her goes.

Tainui was transferred from Starship to Middlemore hospital last week to undergo facial reconstruction on his cheek, jaw and eye. Although this sounds very dramatic the surgeons have done an extremely amazing job and he looks like our boy Tainui!

As of today he has spent a week in the ward out of ICU.

He has been sitting up at times and has enjoyed playing with his new sticker book (thanks Aunty Donna), listening to stories and watching his family and visitors play pranks and jokes on each other.

He continues to be feed via a tube and requires intravenous antibiotics due to his high level risk of infection, this is not very pleasant for Tainui but mum is doing a fantastic job of distracting him when the nurses visit.

I will try my best to get regular updates up for you all.

From all the Whanau we bless you all from the bottom of our hearts. X
