Beach Haven Local Food Hero Taka Peters' Community Hopes to Help Raise Funds for a New Vehicle
Beach Haven, Auckland
Taka Peters has become an icon in and around the Beach Haven area on the North Shore for his amazing work giving back to the community by sourcing leftover food from a commercial kitchen and distributing this to local residents in his community.
Five days a week, rain or shine you will find this amazing man at the Lancaster Shops in Beach Haven asking every person passing by if they would like some free Kai for their family.
Taka who has lived in the Beach Haven area for more than 30 years hopes to be able to expand the volume of food he can source and distribute, as he has noticed a greater need and increased number of people coming daily for food, but is somewhat restricted due to his current vehicles' size and reliability. His faithful old Nissan is reaching the end of it's life and local residents have gathered together in the hope of raising funds for Taka to update his vehicle, allowing him to continue his much needed generous work of "Saving food from going to waste and filling the tummies of local residents"
I am a local resident in the area and met Taka through his community food initiative. This "Give A Little" fund raising idea has come from a group of community members in the Birkdale/Beach Haven Community Group where Taka has gained respect and friendship
Contribution to a new vehicle for Taka Peters to use for his community food initiative
