We need donations to get the Pioneer express running again.
Taranaki
The Pioneer Express was built by a local engineer based on the Barclay shunting engine which would be similar to those used in Stratford in the 1920’s.
It circuits the village on a 24” gauge railway complete with authentic Steam ‘sounds’. The ‘Express’ can carry 20 children and departs from the refurbished Opunake 1925 Railway Station.
No visit to the Taranaki Pioneer Village would be complete without taking a ride on the ‘Pioneer Express’ train. A popular way to view the complex it encircles the property.
However, in July 2019 a big tree destroyed the track and the Pioneer Express railway is currently in desperate need of repair. While some parts have been repaired, further funds are needed to complete the repairs.
Please help us making history come alive and the Pioneer express running again.
We will use the funds to repair the damaged tracks and get the train running again.
