Fundraising to build a new permanant radio control onroad facility for the Taranaki Radio Control Car Club
New Plymouth, Taranaki
Taranaki Radio Control Car Club Inc (TRCCC) has been racing at the Paritutu Race Track on Centennial Drive in New Plymouth for 45 years. The land was taken over by the port in 2014 and since then we have been leasing from the port on a month by month basis with the possibility we are asked to leave at any stage. The old track is also in poor condition, the asphalt has become abrasive and bumpy after years of use and is no longer good for RC vehicles. The track is also small relative to international standards meaning we are limited in the classes we can offer.
The New Plymouth District council have seen the significance of our sport and what it brings to the community. They have granted the club a lease on a high profile property on Clemow Road in Fitzroy. To date we have built two dirt tracks on this land and held several New Zealand championships with international drivers attending.
The third track, we are looking to fundraise, is to be a tarseal circuit that will be unique to our province. It’s a significant investment in our region to have a multi track facility unlike anything else in the country.
This project will help further boost radio control car racing in the Taranaki region and with it would likely become the mecca of RC in the country. We see it as a fantastic sport for youth as it is an engaging way to learn motor mechanics, comradery and also competition.
Fundraising to build a new permanent radio control on road facility for the Taranaki Radio Control Car Club. Even if we don’t get fully towards the goal, as soon as we have enough for the next phase we will spend it. Such as doing the drainage and the laying out the metal. The big cost being the asphalt.
