Help protect the Taranaki community from having dangerous oil and gas wells too close to homes, schools and hospitals.
Nationwide
We need help to pay our expert witnesses to prove that the distance between oil and gas wells and sensitive areas, such as homes, schools and hospitals, needs to be increased from an arbitrary 200 metres to be in line with international standards.
We are preparing for hearings with South Taranaki District Council (STDC) on oil and gas rules being held during June and July. STDC are proposing rules that are totally inadequate to protect the health and safety of the district's residents and the environment. If these rules pass muster in South Taranaki, Stratford and New Plymouth District Council are poised to roll out the same rules. There is a possibility that baselines for national standards will also be informed by this process.
We have a brilliant line up of nationally prominent lawyers and specialists with the highest level of expertise in their respective areas, and strong evidence to be presented – but this kind of help doesn’t come cheap!
We are $16,000 short of what we need to pay our experts and win this case.
Please help us make this a win for community and the environment over one of the most damaging industries in the world!
Taranaki Energy Watch is a grassroots watchdog organisation dedicated to monitoring the expansion of Taranaki's oil and gas industry and lobbying for best practice environmental and health and safety standards.
TEW is currently challenging proposed South Taranaki District Council oil and gas rules that are great for industry profits but seriously endanger local residents.
