Te Mamaku Native Corridor Planting Project needs your help to buy more trees

  • Te Mamaku Native Corridor project

      8 July 2024

Please note that our Givealittle page is now closed as we have moved our project from the Tasman Area Community Association to the Tasman Environmental Trust https://www.tet.org.nz/, as it is a better fit for our project and will help us reach our goals more effectively.

You can continue to make donations by clicking the Donate button at https://www.tet.org.nz/. Look for Te Mamaku Native Corridor project in the drop-down box.

Thanks for all of your kind support. It has been very much appreciated.

The Te Mamaku team seeks further financial support for this ambitious project on the eastern side of SH60 between Tasman and Māpua.

Planting began in 2022 with the success of 14,000 trees thriving in the first 3.4 hectares. A further 3.8 hectares has recently been cleared of pest trees and plants, ready for planting another 16,000 trees.

Wide praise for enhancing local biodiversity has come from Department of Conservation, Forest and Bird, Restoring the Moutere (Tasman Environment Trust),

Landcare Trust and Ngāti Rārua. This evolving prominence in Tasman District has resulted in sponsorship of a further 6,400 trees as part of New Zealand’s gift to celebrate King Charles III coronation. Current contributions mean a

total of 9,300 trees will be planted in 2024.

Your contribution will enable us to buy more trees, fund contractors to plant them and continue with a successful plant management plan.

Alternatively you could share this post among businesses, friends and family who you think might be inclined to contribute.

  • Successful grant applications & beginning clearing of Block 1 for planting

      20 October 2022

Along with your kind donations we are delighted to report that we have made two successful grant applications for $2000 from TDC Community grants and $40,000 from Rātā Foundation which will enable us to fell the pines and clear the ground ready for planting next year. This part of the project will begin next week.

Our Givealittle campaign is still open to receive donations if you would like to share our latest update with family and friends. Every little bit counts.

We will be calling for more help over the summer with tree maintenance for Block 0 (completed in June this year) and during next winter once the new trees are planted to help with attaching just under 5000 plant guards and stakes for Block 1. Please contact Michael Makert on michamarkertnz@gmail.com if you would like to be added to our growing team of volunteers.

We have just completed the first of two working bees in August 2022 to insert fertiliser tabs around each tree which will help our first planting Block 0 to thrive during this first year with a small team of loyal volunteers.

Please keep sharing our story with your friends and family to invite them to contribute.
