Team CamDan take on the World University Champs

  • Update 7 – Nearly there! Mexico here we come . . . . . . soon!

      7 November 2016

We’re just under a week before Team CamDan fly out to Merida, Mexico and training has been going good. Cam had his last heavy(ish) training session on Saturday (7th Nov) with some good success. Cam hit some good numbers in all lifts above the 90% mark – his pulls and squats are looking just as good. The plan for training over the next week and a bit is to keep the weight lifted moderate to heavy, focusing on speed and recovery. Cam is in good spirits and is really looking forward to the experience of lifting on the International stage.

Many thanks to everyone for their generous donations. We’re both super grateful and really appreciate your help here. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more updates – we will posting updates of Cams time in Mexico on the Otara Barbell Club facebook page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/otarabarbellclub

    Keep being awesome guys!!! #TeamCamDan

  • Update 6 - Olympic Weightlifting Workshop

      30 October 2016

Hi all, It's been a couple of weeks since the last update. Cam had a good rest after the NZ Nationals and now were a week in to the final build up towards Mexico. Training has been tough for Cam but just what is needed before your first international weightlifting competition.

As part of our fundraising drive, we ran an Olympic Weightlifting Workshop with 10 people. It was a small group that included three coaches giving instruction. There was a lot of great work happening - lots of 'light bulb' moments for the crew - lots of lifting, mobilising, technique work and even a few personal bests were made. Many thanks to the 10 that came down.

Again, cheers everyone for your support in helping us get to Mexico - we're are only 2-weeks away from flying out and 3-weeks away from Cam hitting the competition platform. We appreciate all your support!!! #TeamCamDan

P.S. More videos to follow soon :)

Cam had a great day in the office at the 2016 NZ National Champs. He placed an awesome 2nd behind 2 x Olympian, Richie Patterson and lifted 3 competition personal bests in the process. It was a good battle between Cam and Cam Smith (Christchurch) for the silver medal.

    Cams lifts were:

    Snatch 123kg, 126kg (PB), 130kg x

    Clean & Jerk 140kg, 144kg (PB), 147kg x

    Total 270kg (PB)

It's not long until we leave for Mexico - 4-weeks in fact. Cam will get back in to training asap with the aim to lift even more weight in Mexico.

Again, many thanks for all your support and donations. We appreciate you all very much. Stay tuned for the next update #TeamCamDan #FISU #WorldUniversityChamps

  • Update 4 - More PBs - Sat 1st Oct 2016

    Hi all,

Team CamDan have been trucking along with training and preparing for Merida really well. Cam hit more personal bests in training with a 150kg Clean & Jerk and he equaled his back squat of 180kg. His 150kg Clean & Jerk was matched with a 124kg Snatch putting his training total at 274kg!!!! This is a good sign going forward.

Cam and Coach Danny had a good hit out with some poker and kareoke at CrossFit Otara's social function. Cam managed a few laughs knocking out Coach Danny of the poker tournament with a higher flush - Coach Danny wasn't impressed :) :) :) Cam managed to snag 3rd place.

Many thanks to Caine, Maurice and Tash for the donations on the night - very much appreciated. And many thanks to everyone for your donations and support - we appreciate you all very much #TeamCamDan
