Tents for Mina and her neighbours

$725 of $1,200 goal
Given by 10 generous donors in 4 weeks

After the Nepal quakes, Mina's family & her neighbours are living outside in the street. Let's get 'em some tents before the monsoon starts!

Wellington

Mina Satyal ran the Nepalese orphanage my sponsor child Ganesh was raised in from the age of 9. She is an extremely caring and kind hearted woman who has given her life to protecting those most in need.

Now - after the quakes - her home is unsafe to enter and her family are living outside under a sheet of plastic to keep the rain off. There is no electricity so everything is being cooked over a fire and lighting is by candles.

I spoke to Mina and asked her how I could help. She talked about the people in her neighbourhood, saying she was distraught to see them in such pain from loss and fear - that her wish was to take care of them and at least provide them a way to get out of the rain. Not surprisingly, she had no thought of herself except for the sadness she felt for others.

It's time to take care of Mina! $270 buys a tent sufficiently large for Mina's family to live in. $20 buys a floor mat for that tent. Mina is currently finding out the cost of a lamp to remove the risk of candles burning the tent. My hope is to provide enough money for Mina to get her own family dry and warm as well as 3 of her neighbours families.

I will ensure 100% of the money lands directly with the people who need it, and I will happily share photo's with anyone who wants to see how their money made a difference. :)

I'm helping Mina because she cared for and raised my son Ganesh from age 9 to 18. She is part of our family.

Time marches on  25 June 2015

Since I started this page two things have happened (ok a lot more than that - but 2 RELEVANT things).

1. I realised Mina wasn't in Pokhara at the time of the quake - she was in a village called Bugmati near Kathmandu so that's where the tents are needed. My mistake on the location.

2. Mina has managed to get her own family sorted out for a place to live. Go Mina!

She's still very excited to be able to provide these funds for the families who haven't yet got proper shelter and her only message to me on seeing the donations so far were "Oh!!! It's great news! It's my opportunity that I can provide for needy one". Bless her heart.
