The authorities require us to build a traffic island outside our new The Beer Spot in New North Road, Morningside. Can you help us please?

Auckland

The Truth:

Under the Resource Consent we gained to build a new The Beer Spot in Morningside/Kingsland, we’re required to build a traffic island on New North Road.

It won’t be anything like an idyllic desert island, or even remotely attractive and it’s going to cost $40,000.

We thought you might like to contribute to the building of it.

We’re not sure when small businesses became responsible for Civil Works, but this island is part of our resource consent for the site and if we don't do it, we can't open.

While we’d like to make it look amazing, there are rules and regulations about what a traffic island should look like and do. This does not however, mean we will cede the island to the authorities.

If you choose to contribute to the building of this island, we will cement your name (literally) as a ‘resident’ into the concrete of the island by way of a printed list being chucked into the cement during mixing.

We'll plan 'Take back the Island' events annually to celebrate.

Use of funds

The funds will be used for traffic control, Council and Auckland Transport applications, design, construction and placement of the traffic island. If the goal is exceeded, we'll donate the excess to a local school.
