The Classic: A Comedy Web Series

‘The Classic’ is a six-minute pilot for a comedy web series which follows a young hopefuls dream of performing standup comedy to a live audience.

Inspired by the true events of staff that work there, the story follows the comedy club’s technician who hopes to make it in the standup comedy scene. This will follow his journey in stardom, as he believes he’s got what it takes to become comedies next big thing.

We are Harry Burke (Director) and Louis Laws (Producer), both film majors studying television & screen production at AUT University. We are passionate storytellers & filmmakers who love all things comedy, & wish to see this project succeed as our final production before graduating this year. We’ve both been members of the Classic Comedy Club crew for over a year, and strive to combine our real-life stories and interactions from working at the Classic, to bring you a comedic twist on what it’s like to work behind the scenes of standup comedy.

Why the Classic? The Classic Comedy Club is New Zealand's only dedicated comedy venue for over 20 years. The Classic is considered the home of live comedy in New Zealand and will be the location of our series. What makes this series unique is the blend between fiction & reality, encapsulating our real-life experiences with our interpretation of the inner workings of the comedy industry.

We have a crew of fellow film students eager to carry out the production of project, alongside supportive comedians who will also feature in cameos portrayals of themselves. We would love your support to help create this web series and make it possible, turning this passion project into a reality. We are currently working on a pilot episode, but with your help & generous donations, we can turn this into a five-part features series.
