the crucibulum: a carbon-sequestering installation where Art and Science fuse together in the Alchemy of Fire and Community Healing.
Auckland
the crucibulum is a large-scale circular gathering space in which a powerful live biochar kiln process (or pyrolysis fire) is ‘performed’ as a powerful art installation to underscore the critical need for cultural and societal transformation and climate action.
the crucibulum is both the physical-chemical alchemy of the fire sculpture and simultaneously the metamorphosis of individuals and society.
It is both a poignant confrontation with the crisis of our ‘world on fire’ and simultaneously an aesthetic encounter with awe, wonder, beauty, togetherness, warmth, enjoyment, vigil, prayer, contemplation and healing.
The Biochar Kiln is an immersive fire sculpture not to be missed.
This biochar procedure is a direct means of sequestering carbon for hundreds of years. Participants will be invited to feel the wonder, the beauty and the empowerment of participating in that change through art. Perhaps they will be inspired to learn how to make biochar themselves. Perhaps they will leave with a glimmer of hope for the possibility of positive change.

The money is to keep the crucibulum perpetually travelling to different communities and regions. Funding of this critical phase allows us to cover the basic fabrication and running costs and to continue to seek other funding through festivals and events.
