The Ground Remembers Us — Taking New Zealand Youth Theatre to the World Stage in Europe

A Generation Returns. Where National Memory Meets the World Stage. A Generational Milestone. What is unfolding here is genuinely remarkable in scale, depth and national significance. In August 2026, a New Zealand-written and devised contemporary theatre work, performed by young New Zealanders aged 18–20, is presented at the AITA/IATA World Youth Performing Arts Festival in Antwerp. Under the guidance of Director Blaise Barham, these emerging artists stand at the threshold of adulthood, representing Aotearoa on a global stage with confidence, discipline and artistic ambition.

Immediately following the Antwerp festival, the company travels to Ypres to present the work in alignment with the Flanders Fields Museum, the principal First World War institution within the Ypres Salient and one of the most respected commemorative and educational centres on the former Western Front.
