The J-Key to success for people with special needs.

The J-Key is a communication device which replaces a standard mouse-&-keyboard with a Joystick. The device was developed by Mike Watling to enable children with severe disabilities, access to the world of computers and is currently being field-tested at Central Auckland Specialist School (CASS).

To further test the J-Key concept, Mike's wish is to build 12 J-Key units for students who will benefit from them and test the students over a period of 12 months. The 12 units would be available at the beginning of the 2021 school term and the information gathered during the year will be used to determine any future productions.

The material cost for 1 J-Key unit is approximately $150 nz so $1800 for 12. If extra is raised, it will be put towards the purchase of equipment for the next level in the project.

Labour costs are volunteered and free.

The overlays for the keyboards and indication pods have been designed by Dawn Lodge-Osbourn - DawnDesignLtd and are ready for production when funds are available by Westprint.
