Introducing the Bunny Fund! Can you help Lake House replace its bunny sculpture, that has been broken beyond repair by a group of vandals?
Auckland
On the night of 27/28 of August, a wooden sculpture of a Rabbit called 'The Carrot or The Stick' by artist Jamie Pickernell was badly vandalised. The Rabbit sculpture was donated to Lake House Art Centre by Takapuna Community Board in 2007 and has been keeping watch over the grounds of Lake House for over a decade.
It's one of the most loved fixtures of the art centre and it's not uncommon to see school children give it a little hug as they walk by. The bunny has featured in selfies, family pictures, been the subject of artworks and even popped up in the odd wedding photo.
Unfortunately, the sculpture was damaged beyond repair. The artist who carved the bunny, Jamie Pickernell, is talking with Lake House about creating a replacement. Although the artwork was insured there is an excess of $1,000 that Lake House needs to cover.
As a community art centre, it's not easy to find spare money and the hope is that the people that come and enjoy Lake House will be able to help raise the funds. Every little will help and any additional or spare dollars raised will be put towards making the sculpture more durable for future generations to enjoy.
Lake House Arts is the local arts and heritage learning centre for the North Shore community. We offer a range of art activities and services to the public.
Lake House need $1,000 to cover the insurance excess. The funds raise will be an important step to help Lake House replace the bunny sculpture. Any additional dollars raised will be put towards making the sculpture more durable.
