We're looking to raise funds for the treatment, care and rehabilitation of wild animals in India by an NZ veterinarian abroad.
Auckland
I moved to India over a decade ago from NZ to work with wildlife across the country. In the years since, I've worked with Government Forest Departments and NGOs in the pursuit of conservation medicine. As a vet, I was called upon for hundreds of cases that ranged from taking care of baby elephants (Which tend to be lot of work) to capturing and treating a man-eating tiger that had killed half a dozen people.
I started up my career working at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve where I worked on dealing with human wildlife conflict management as well as the occasional tiger or leopard capture. It was there that I became involved in the treatment of Elephants, both in the wild and in captivity. Over the years since, I have become a consultant with a number of NGOs across the country where I work towards the welfare of elephants. I currently work on a project that rescues and rehabilitates begging elephants and elephants that have been through cruelty, giving them medical assistance and treating their feet (Which are in very bad shape due to a lifetime of being on solid concrete or walking on roads).
I am currently trying to raise funds to treat and take care of a few elephants in my care as the recent COVID outbreak has made funding extremely difficult here in India.
