The Galilee Project is arranging to complete and deliver "Galilee" a steel boat to Bishop Capelli for Gizo Diocese in the Solomon Islands.
Northland
The Galilee Project is preparing a steel boat to serve the needs of the people of Gizo Diocese in the Solomon Islands. All work is being carried out by volunteers. The group is collecting funds to complete modifications to the boat and to fund delivery expenses.
Bishop Capelli's diocese covers over 100 islands and the boat will support the work of the church throughout these islands, transporting teachers and students to remote schools, bringing the sick to hospital, and freighting supplies for building projects.
Galilee is being fitted out at Opua in Northland and will depart for the Solomon Islands mid-2015 subject to funding to complete the work. A new alternator, a range of spare parts, essential safety equipment and fuel for the delivery voyage are still needed, and before departure the vessel will need to be hauled from the water and cleaned and repainted.
Volunteers to help with the preparation work and crew for the delivery trip are also needed.
The boat is open for inspection at the port of Opua in Northland and groups may visit. Call 022 616 2585
