relief fund for parents property that was devasted by the Te Araroa floods
Te Araroa, Gisborne
In the wee hours of the 22nd of January, my parents had to make the unthinkable decision to evacuate their property with their grandson to avoid the horrific slip and flooding in Te Araroa. They have experienced complete devastation. They have lost everything they have worked so hard for. We now know the extent of the damage and it is going to be a long road to rebuild what they used to have. Their land is ruined but it is a miracle that no water got into their tiny home or cabin, mud is currenly seeping through the back of the cabin, which requires heavy machinery to move. If you know my parents, you know they live off the land. They will need to try to reestablish all the fruit trees, vegetables and plants that helped them live in Te Araroa. Also rebuild fences, gates, driveways, drainage and hopefully bee hives again! To make matters even harder, they do not have any insurance. This is going to be a tough, long road to clean up and salvage what they can. Any contribution, big or small, would be a huge help to try and establish their paradise.
I am their daughter
Rebuilding their land and home, they will need equipment to remove debris and mud, building resources to fix their home, cleaning equipment to clean up the house,
Scale of destruction 26 January 2026
This just gives you an idea of the extend of the damage.
Mum, Dad and their wonderful friends are manually digging dirt/mud away from the cabin and deck as they have no access to a digger at this time. Lots of hard work but amazing how a community comes together during these tough times! They have a lot of support which is so heart warming xx
