relief fund for parents property that was devasted by the Te Araroa floods
Te Araroa, Gisborne
In the wee hours of the 22nd of January, my parents had to make the unthinkable decision to evacuate their property with their grandson to avoid the horrific slip and flooding in Te Araroa. They have experienced complete devastation. They have lost everything they have worked so hard for. We now know the extent of the damage and it is going to be a long road to rebuild what they used to have. Their land is ruined but it is a miracle that no water got into their tiny home or cabin, mud is currenly seeping through the back of the cabin, which requires heavy machinery to move. If you know my parents, you know they live off the land. They will need to try to reestablish all the fruit trees, vegetables and plants that helped them live in Te Araroa. Also rebuild fences, gates, driveways, drainage and hopefully bee hives again! To make matters even harder, they do not have any insurance. This is going to be a tough, long road to clean up and salvage what they can. Any contribution, big or small, would be a huge help to try and establish their paradise.

Rebuilding their land and home, they will need equipment to remove debris and mud, building resources to fix their home, cleaning equipment to clean up the house,
Keeping their heads up high 12 February 2026
Mum and Dad have been working hard to do what they can with the resources they have. There have been some disappointing times with the lack of help from certain organisations, and some very disappointing decisions have been made that impact on their property. Thankfully, a hui was held last night where concerns were expressed and the council is finally doing the mahi they need to on the stream. Unfortunately, they have left it a bit too late with heavy rain on the way. Their stream is now very shallow from the buildup of silt, which means it will flood as soon as any heavy rain comes, there is also major concern further up the stream which is Mum and Dad's biggest worry. There are a lot of fallen native trees and boulders that are waiting to get washed down the hill. This needs to be cleared ASAP but they are at the mercy of the council getting it done and the weather. At the moment we just need to pray that the rain isn't too heavy and persistent so they don't flood this weekend and the mahi gets done.
Aroha nui to you all xx
