The Pukeko Centre is a community-led development which will provide much needed sports and recreation facilities in east Christchurch.
Canterbury
Together we’re building a sports and recreation facility for the whole community. This is your opportunity to help us turn our big dream into a reality!
The Pūkeko Centre is an ambitious joint venture between the Parklands Bowling Club and the Parklands Junior Rugby Club. Both clubs were badly affected by Christchurch’s 2011 earthquakes – the Bowling Club’s clubrooms were damaged beyond repair and the Junior Rugby Club was displaced from its home base. Seeing the potential to do things differently, the two clubs joined forces to come up with a solution together.
What has evolved from their collaboration is a multi-use facility that will not only serve as a home base for both founding clubs, but will also provide much needed sports and recreation facilities for other grass-roots clubs and organisations in East Christchurch.
The project involves the relocation of two large, good quality buildings from the now closed Freeville School – previously earmarked for demolition – onto the Parklands Bowling Club site.
Stage 1 will see the school’s Modern Learning Studio transformed into clubrooms, meeting rooms and social facilities. In Stage 2, the former school hall will be set up to provide a large, versatile venue for indoor sports, performances and events.
Through four years of hard work, and the generous support of our founding sponsors, Stage 1 is now fully funded and the development is well underway.
We are now actively seeking to raise 1.1 million for Stage 2 – this is where you come in! Thank you for your support. Your generous contribution will help build a lasting legacy for a community that has lost so much.
