I'm a 20 year old concerned about the amount of food waste that kiwis produce. I aim to nip it in the bud from the start of production by buying that 'waste' and finding better uses for it in our community.
I am starting up a fruit & vegetable home delivery service. However, instead of premium grade produce, I am seeking the so-called 'B Grade' or 'Second Rate' produce that is still good, it may just have some cosmetic defects. Preferably from local farmers where possible and for a discounted price to their more perfect counterparts. Fruit and veggies that would have otherwise been thrown away.
My initiative is to reduce food waste from the grower's level and find new purposes for it. As Auckland is a relatively expensive place to live, I'd like to provide a cheaper option to eat healthily for families and also support local farmers by buying their B grade produce.
All packaging will be made out of environmentally sustainable materials and the excess fruit & veggies will go to local food banks such as Auckland City Mission & The Salvation Army.

Your support means the world to me to bring my passion to life. Our city needs an initiative like this, especially in the current financial situation many families and young people are in.
I mainly started this page to help get the idea out there and fund the somewhat expensive beginning stages of starting something like this.
On 27th April 2017 I will have an in-depth business plan completed to show those who are interested in getting involved further. I am looking out for potential investors, graphic designers, website designers/developers, food technologists (specialising in storage and packaging design), anyone in the refrigeration & storage business, delivery companies, any and all local farmers or produce suppliers wanting to get involved, food banks in need of fresh produce, marketing & advertising specialists, media relations ... The list goes on as you can imagine.
