After a 10 year battle with Lymphoma, kidney failure and stem cell transplant I need non funded chemo drugs to prolong my life in remission.
Bay of Plenty
Wow where do I start. I was diagnosed 10 years ago, at the age of 34, with stage 3 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma after I found a lump under arm. My two girls Kyra and Tayla were 2 and 4 at the time had Chemo for 6 months which put me into a remission - so happy!
On a routine check up my blood test, 5 years later, the results came back urgently as I was in Renal failure, my kidneys were working at 3% ( I thought I had been feeling a little unwell ). I was put into Waikato where they found the cancer was back in my tummy and had blocked my kidneys. I had to have tubes with bags attached inserted in kidneys, start dialysis, start chemo and learn that my kidneys would probably never come back and would need dialysis for the rest of my life. Bummer, this was a very low point.
So roll forward a few months in hospital, kidney bags off I was sent home to do dialysis 4 times a day through a port in my tummy and continue chemo. I started back at work, dialysis bags and all, and life carried on until I received a call from my Oncologist saying " they wanted to do a Stem Cell Transplant " OMG sounded scary as but we were going for a cure!! So after a lot panning between the Renal team and the Oncology team my stem call transplant was performed using my own stem cells they harvested.
An intense week of radiation and chemo took my white blood count and immune system to zero. The stem cells are then infused back into my body. We then wait for the bone marrow to make more blood cells. Thank fully my body was up to the task and 10 days later the bloods weer showing some white cells - Yipe. Also my kidneys amazingly started to function again so no more dialysis either. After a long several months and a month in Waikato they scan showed the cancer was gone - WOW what a feeling.
Unfortunately that was 2 years ago and did enjoy a cancer free life, until in April this year a routine blood test showed my kidney function back to 5 %, a decline again. So back to a scan which showed the cancer back again in my tummy!! Far out devastating news. It was looking like dialysis would have to start again and of course another round of chemo. They put a stent in to unblock the kidneys which worked so they are up to 10% and hanging in there. I am currently on 4 of 6 rounds of chemo. There was then the lifeline of another stem cell but using a donor for the cells. My sister was getting tested when we found out that that was not an option as because of my kidney function there was too much risk. So that leaves me with this round of chemo, which is funded , and then 2 years of maintenance to prolong remission, which is not funded and will cost my family $30,000. This is now my last option to prolong my life after fighting this disease for 10 years! I am 46 years old and my girls are now 12 and 14. My goal now to make it until their 21st's.
I have never asked for a cent through all my treatment and missed months of wages and work but this amount of money will be way too hard to find. Please if you can help I would appreciate it so much.
100% non funded chemo drugs for next 2 years. If this does not go to plan I will donate to another person who needs non funded drugs for cancer treatment.
Nearly there 20 November 2019
So humbled and honoured for all the donations I have receivced so far and we are nearly there. The local paper are doing a follow up story on my cancer journey and would love to put the give a little link to maybe reach some more people and get closer to the goal for my Lymphoma treatment. Chemo has gone well but I need maintenance over the next 2 years to keep my mass from growing, this is not funded and will cost $30,000. We have raised through give a little and more work place Glenholme School 17,000. Thank you so much
