Building a bio-gas tank will save NPR 19,400 on gas per month and increase the funds available to feed the children by 30% every month!!
International
There are 155 children at Shree Bindeshwari Basic Level School and 85 of them also live there, these children rarely leave the grounds. There are no adults present outside of school hours, but the children are each other’s family/carers/friends/community - cue the tears, their happiness and love for each other gets me right in the feels everyday 🥹
There’s no money for breakfast, for lunch the children eat rice soup (i.e. rice and water) and dinner is rice with 1 other ingredient.
With its current budget the school has 9.37 NPR per meal (12 cents NZD).
When I heard about the bio-gas tank dream it was no-brainer - a sustainable way for the school to save enough money to increase the funds available to feed the children by 30% every month!!
The school has said this would enable them to provide breakfast and add more ingredients to their rice soup!
As well as caring for 100’s of children in her own home over the last 30 yrs, Munu (a volunteer herself) welcomes volunteers (mostly through Workaway) to live with her & help reach her dream of improving the lives of children and breaking the poverty cycle
The total price for the bio-gas tank is NPR 320,000 (~$4,100 NZD). This is an extortionate amount of money for the school, hence why it hasn’t been done yet.
Any extra funds will be spent on snake-proofing the bedrooms.
Construction is underway! 3 March 2025
Construction of the bio-gas tank has started! I’ve received excited messages from the Principal and some teachers asking me to say a MASSIVE thank you and namaste to all you big-hearted people who are bringing this dream to life!
Enjoy this photo of the youngest kids sending you some good namaste vibes 🙏
I hope you have an uplifting week,
Susie
