Let's help the McLarin Family get through this difficult time and contribute to the funeral costs

Titirangi, Auckland

The kayaking community this week is remembering Simon McLarin, a legend and figurehead in the sport and especially at his home club, the Waitemata Canoe and Multisport Club.

Simon tragically suffered a medical event while out paddling on Saturday morning from the club in Auckland.

Simon was a true paddler in all senses of the word, competing locally, nationally and internationally across all disciplines for decades, taking home in-numerous titles and deeply involved in all aspects of kayaking and his club.

He leaves his family without any funeral insurance so lets help them through this difficult time!

Sean Murphy's involvement (page creator)

Simon was a friend, paddling & training partner of mine and a fellow committee member for the Waitemata Canoe & Multisport Club

Use of funds

The funds will help Jessica Wallace (Si's partner) and Simon's children, Jordan, Hayden and Sharmain Mclarin meet the funeral costs and any related costs.

McLarin Memorial Marathon  25 May 2026

Thank-you to everyone who has donated to help Si's family through this tough time.

We are organising a Memorial Marathon Race in Si's memory, to be held at Waitemata Canoe & Multisport Club on the Te Atatu Peninsula where Si has trained for decades and clocked up tens of thousands of km's over that time.

If you are interested we would love to see you all, you don't need to race the full distance of 20km's there will be 10km & 5km options.

Come and join our paddling community and i'm sure there will be a fair few stories after the paddle! All craft, all abilities, come and have some fun!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
