Helping a beautiful young family in need as they come to terms with a recent diagnosis of Muscular Dystrophy in August (2 years old).
Wellington
August is 2 years old and has recently been diagnosed with a condition called Ducheene Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This is a very rare disease affecting just 1 in every 3,5000 to 5,000 boys born worldwide. DMD causes the muscles in the body to become weak and damaged over time, and is eventually fatal. Children with DMD lose the ability to walk by early teens and once in a wheelchair the muscles of the heart and lungs become damaged. This is a 100% fatal condition with no known cure. The Average life expectancy of boys with this is 26 years old.
Kathryn (Mother), Jeremy (Father), family, and the Magic Sparks whanau want to make sure August lives the best possible life he can with as much independence as we can give him and therefore we are raising money to help Kathryn and family with house modifications needed for wheel chair accessibility. We would also love to raise enough money for Kathryn and family to take August and his brother away on a family vacation to enjoy their time together and make memories they can all hold forever in our hearts.
August is a wonderful little boy full of so much joy and positive energy and it breaks our hearts that he will have to live with this tragic disease.
August and family have attended Magic Sparks Care and Learning since August was 4 months old (as well as his big brother attending prior to this) therefore as a community and family we wish to pull together to eliminate some financial strain, fund a family holiday whilst August is still mobile and help to fund major house modifications to support wheel chair access and for August.
The money raised will contribute towards house modifications needed for wheelchair access as well as a family holiday to help the family create memories that will last a lifetime.
