Help restore Tokomaru Bay's wharf.
Gisborne
Tokomaru Bay is a beachside community located on the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island. With its temperate climate of hot summers and mild winters, it is a stunning place to visit. It sprawls along eight kilometres of coastline and features a golden beach. A wonderful place for swimming, surfing and fishing. It is an area rich in culture and history.
The Tokomaru Bay Heritage Trust works to restore Tokomaru Bay's wharf and heritage buildings and to build walkways in the ruins of the old freezing works. The Eastland Tourism Section is about to take off and this is our opportunity to establish a heritage site. The next location following the Tolaga Bay wharf, on the East Coast Heritage Trail.
What remains of a once bustling works is now ruins. It is now a race against time to restore the wharf which could be lost in the next big storm to hit.
The Trust's initial goal is to restore the wharf's concrete jetty piles. This is estimated at a cost of $1.2million.
Donations received will go towards the cost of restoring the wharf which in turn will help preserve this heritage site and establish the region as a tourism destination to rival many of New Zealand's best.
Please support us by donating and spreading the word.
