Fighting for top surgery/double mastectomy
Auckland
Silas has been fighting for surgery for 6 years now. He is transgender, meaning that he was assigned female at birth and he is transitioning to male. Getting a double mastectomy to remove his breasts is the next step but the public health system has failed him, he hasn't been able to make it onto the public waitlist for surgery due to strict BMI requirements. He can't wear a binder due to a painful chest condition.
Not being able to bind leaves Silas at high risk for harassment and violence which on top of his dysphoria, causes him distress everyday. He finds it hard to leave the house for any amount of time, he needs this surgery to improve his life and to finally allow him to move on
It's hard fighting, he's even had a well known doctor who works with trans patients tell him to starve himself to get on the public waitlist when at his lowest weight due to an eating disorder. Silas deserves real healthcare and if the public system won’t do anything about it, we have to. He’s fought hard to still be here, and even though asking for help is hard, it is our only option at this point
We’re both unable to work due to disabilities and severe mental health issues so we scrape by on the benefit which isn’t enough for rent, food and bills, this is why we have to fundraise. We don't even earn enough to apply for a loan, but I'm doing my best to change this by starting up an online store to sell my art.
The beneficiary is my fiance Silas
The money will be spent on a consultation and paying for his top surgery/double mastectomy.
If we don't meet our goal, it will be used to take out a loan to pay for surgery.
Update as of 10/11/23 10 November 2023
Heya! So I had my consult a few months ago and finally got a total cost for surgery.
I'll attach the screen shot of everything.
But yeah, thankfully it isn't as expensive as I thought it would be but it's still steep so any help you'd be able to give would mean so much to me
Thank you so so so much!!!
Thank you 😊
Thank you!!💛x
