We are aiming to redevelop our entire Torere Marae complex in 3 stages over the next 15 years. Make sure you tautoko our Marae today!
Bay of Plenty
Torere Marae is the stronghold of our iwi and is the central focal point of all Ngai Tai endeavours. It is therefore imperative that the Marae and all of its taonga are protected, maintained and further developed for future generations.
Consistent with the aspirations and needs of our iwi, the Trust acknowledges its role in capturing the history of our Marae and supporting the intergenerational transmission of our cultural knowledge, values, practices and beliefs. The Trust aims to do this by supporting and providing opportunities that connect and build the cultural capacity and capability of our people.
In addition, three key areas of capital works development have been identified for our Marae over the next fifteen years:
1. Wharepaku and waste water system
2. Wharekai and annex
3. Whare Taonga
As part of the Project Management Team, it is our responsibility to make sure that we have the right people in the right places, doing the right things. If you think that you can actively contribute towards the planning for the re-development of our Marae, then please get in contact and show your support. Every contribution counts and is valued, no matter how big or small:)
Torere Reserves Trust administers Torere reservation lands that have been set aside by the tribe for the benefit of all its members. These reservations include Torere Marae, Torere Urupa (Te Onetapu, Te Hanoa, Owhainene and Opeperu – a total of four urupa), Torere Beach, River and Bush reserves, as well as Torere Rock – a sacred site of tribal significance.
As the governing entity of our reserves, we see the pivotal role that we play in ensuring that our whanau are able to connect to their marae, to their lands, to their beach and rivers, and most of all, to each other. We are currently in a phase of development and are working extremely hard towards raising and applying for funding to support the redevelopment of our Marae.
