Touch Pause Engage
Lachie once again needs our support as he battles a relapse of neuroblastoma. We are fundraising to get him $80k MIGB treatment in Sydney.
CanterburyHello Touch Pause Engage Family! Many of you will have followed this families journey over the past 8 years since Lachie was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2012. You’ve supported them through Lachie’s battle with cancer and grieved with them when they lost Chris to Melanoma in 2013.
In the years following Lachie’s treatment and Chris’s passing this family has worked hard to heal and rebuild. Its been a challenging and exhausting journey. Last year when Kelly re-married we celebrated with them as a new and exciting chapter in their lives began.
It was to be short lived. Just four weeks after their marriage, Kelly and Jon learnt that Lachie had relapsed. Now a spirited pre-teen, Lachie has spent the past five months undergoing 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 7 cycles of immunotherapy and radiation. In late March, Lachie will fly to Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney for MIGB therapy. What is MIGB therapy? MIBG is a compound that can be combined with radioactive iodine (I-131) to deliver targeted radiation. It is administered through an intravenous line and absorbed by tumor cells, which are killed by radiation emitted by the radioactive I-131. This therapy destroys tumors while sparing normal, healthy tissue.
Lachie travelled to Sydney in 2012 for MIBG therapy when he was first diagnosed. The treatment was self-funded in 2012 and remains self-funded in 2020. The cost for treatment is approximately NZ$70,000. We need to help his family raise $80,000 for treatment and travel related costs.
