I asked Troy if he could give me his official bucket list, so if there were other ways people could help other than a cash donation they could. Apart from the 13b Turbo engine it hasn’t been that easy… What 19 year old has to think of what he would like to do or accomplish before he dies and in such a small time frame. Also as time gets on, some of these things may get harder to do.

It also has not been easy because we a constantly facing new problems. On the 25th February Troy was admitted to Hospital again after three days of being sick and sleeping. We weren’t to know he was hours off slipping into a coma from Hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood) and an infection. Sadly two nurse visits weren’t able to pick up this common side-effect advanced cancer and was not caught early enough to prevent permeant damage done to Troy’s kidneys.

Troy in hoping to get out of hospital as soon as a plan for home care can be made. This is difficult as home is in Pongakawa, so hospital is 40 minutes away and a lot of funded services for nurses don’t reach that far or only cover so many visits.

Troy’s Bucket list has been added to his main page.

  • Update for 10/09/2014

      10 September 2014

Since the last update Troy has had three cycles of chemotherapy. A cycle is one big and two small doses. Troy also had a stay at Waipuna Hospice where he was able to get pain and medication under control, meaning Troy could come off his injector driven Morphine. During the stay at hospice we hired a camper van and took Troy and took Troy and some friends up to Chrome Expression Sessions at Hampton Downs race track. Troy had the best day ever watching burnouts, drags and going for hot laps. A picture of Troy and his friends is in the September issue of Performance Car magazine. Once Troy's pain medication was under control he has been able to move home. Through all of the blood tests and chemotherapy Troy has managed to keep his awesome attitude to life. Although he has lost his hair he has not lost his apatite and craves his favourite...... Butter Chicken!! Troy was able to experience a glider flight, confirming he prefers wheels over wings. On Monday 1st September Troy had a second cat scan, results left everyone with mixed emotions. As hoped the tumour's have decreased in size but the scan also revealed there was representing cancer in two vertebra and hip bone. Since Chemotherapy targeted the cancer it disintegrated the vertebra and left a large hole in his hip bone. Also hearing the Oncologist reinforcing this cancer is aggressive an will return hits home again. Although there are so many negatives we constantly remind ourselves this is all for a positive - memories and more time together. This Friday 12th September Troy, family and friends will be celebrating Troy's 19th birthday.

      1 August 2014

Troy had his first chemotherapy treatment on 29 July and will be receiving large doses once every 3 weeks and small doses once a week in between. His pain is now under control meaning he has been able to come off a lot of the pain medication. Our family is now receiving knowledge on medication and care to aid Troy in his fight. A huge thank you from our family for all the support and kindness we have received.
