Trust Democracy works with everyday people to try and work out how to make democracy work as it should.
Nationwide
We need a democracy that people trust and that enables us to address the issues we need it to.
At a time when democracy is under siege globally, we cannot be complacent about the way we govern ourselves here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
For the political system to function democratically, people must be included and empowered to collectively define problems and goals, and decide what gets done.
Trust Democracy is a non-profit organisation dedicated to ‘making democracy work as it should’. Part of this is about providing spaces for people to learn about, discuss and experience different ways of doing democracy.
How do we do this? Our members volunteer their time to:
* Organise events and webinars featuring democratic thinkers, innovators and research
* Provide opportunities for everyday people to share their ideas about democracy and experience new ways of doing democracy (e.g. citizens’ assemblies)
* Encourage our government to create laws and policies that protect and enhance democracy
* Help other civil society organisations with shared goals to maximise our collective impact.
We use donations to help pay for, or subsidise participation in, our events, webinars, workshops, and demonstration processes. They may help pay for publications and to enable the participation of our volunteers in public discussions about democracy.
