Dani Tyler's Fight for Life

  • Small Steps in the right direction

After a long and hard 8 months, Dani went back to school for the first time this week, just 2 hours for a couple of days a week when she is feeling up to it, but its a start. Definitely one very happy girl!

Dani had a lot of help & support from Tegan, Max, her good friends & also her awesome teacher who made it that much easier for us. Dani showed so much courage & determination, and we are so proud of her.

Dani celebrated her 8th Birthday at Splashy with family and friends this month, a huge milestone for our family and seeing the brightness in Dani's Smile melts our hearts.

Although Dani is making great progress, there is still all the hard work behind the scenes that Dayne and I are dealing with everyday, medical appointments, endless medication, sterilising of absolutely everything, 10 hours of dialysis everyniight, sleepless nights, then we wake to do it all over again.

But totally worth it to finally see the smile on Dani's face again.

Still a way to go before we get to transplant stage but each day we are taking small baby steps in the right direction.

A huge thank you to everyone for your continuing support.

  • The Next Stage in Dani's Journey

      10 April 2017

So today was Dani's last chemo up at Starship Hospital. A huge feeling of relief that she has completed such a hard road of emotions, sickness, physical appearance, pain, loss of appetite and mobility.

We are so proud of the fight that Dani has given again. To be told back in October last year when we asked "that question" "are we going to lose our daughter", to be told "you need to be prepared for the worst".

Well a big "take that" to the 3 doctors who said that. Cancer is not going to take our baby!!

Dani has gone through the lowest of lows on this ride and yet she has never complained. She has dealt with everything so well and just got the jobs done.

This journey has been hard, there have been many tears, so much heartbreak for us all ... so to get to the last chemo is a celebration.

We now travel down the road to transplant stage - which at this stage we are looking at April 2019.

The Plan for now is Dani will have a CT/X-Ray every 3 months, as well as monthly clinic visits up at Starship Hospital, weekly injections, daily medications and of course 10 hours of dialysis and tubal feed every night.

Dayne, Tegan and Kylie will continue to be Dani's personal nurses at home and together as a family will get her to transplant stage!

  • Progress Update

      8 March 2017

An update on Dani's journey for all you awesome people who are being so supportive.

The Tyler family would like to thank you all for your help.

Dani is now into her second week on Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) and she has accepted this new lifestyle change quite well at this stage. There is still a lot of balancing going on to try and get Dani's fluid levels at a good level for her body. Unfortunately due to this her blood pressure has been very high causing her head aches and discomfort.

In addition to this Dani had Chemo last Monday which again threw a curve ball her way, she was a very sick wee girl.

This was heartbreaking for her family to see her so sick with the vomiting causing extreme pain on her tummy which is still sore from the surgery.

Dayne & Kylie are still in training on PD, the nasal tube feeding & medications. This is all quite an overload & even harder when they are so sleep deprived.

    Positive for the week:

Dani's big sister Tegan celebrated her 10th Birthday on Tuesday and they were allowed a pass card for the day to enjoy the celebrations with Family and Friends.

    xx
