Unite for Mothers this Mothers Day!

  • Update for 01/05/2009

      1 May 2009

Hundreds of people around New Zealand have already taken part in UNICEFfs knitting and crocheting challenge to make 1,400 woollen squares which are now being stitched into a giant baby blanket to be unveiled at Parliament this Motherfs Day, Sun 10th May! The giant blanket is part of UNICEFfs Unite for Mothers campaign that is raising awareness about how to prevent the transmission of HIV from mothers to their children. The blanket will then be divided into baby-sized blankets and delivered to new mums in Papua New Guinea. While the knitting deadline has now passed, there are two other important ways you can help Unite for Mothers: 1. Sign the Petition: the Unite for Mothers online petition asks the New Zealand Government to keep our promise to do all we can to scale up our response to HIV and AIDS in the Pacific. Itfs quick and easy to sign ? please visit http://www.unicef.org.nz/page/263/Signthepetition.html"" http://www.unicef.org.nz/page/263/Signthepetition.html 2. Join UNICEF this Mothers Day! Come along to Parliament Gardens in Wellington this Sunday 10th May at 3pm. Here we will unveil the giant baby blanket and present the petition to MPs who are Mums, the Hon Tariana Turia and Hon Jackie Blue. Be entertained by awesome dance troupe the RHBs!
