    Hey everybody

Just wanted to let everyone know how I am doing. I have been home for two and a half months now and everything seems to be going okay. I had an X-ray about a month ago and everything was still looking good. My weight is steadily increasing which is great and my fur is almost completely grown back. I am no longer getting confused as a poodle now smile emoticon

Lately I have had a few skin problems where my skin has been quite dry and itchy, If anyone has a good remedy for this I am all ears.

Thank you to everyone who has followed my journey through this nightmare, all the support and generosity has been fantastic and greatly appreciated.

I will continue with the updates in the future so everyone can see how things are going.

    Love Zeus

  • From the,,,,Uncle

      7 March 2015

Hi all, spoke with Zeus's dad yesterday and it seems all is going well with the big fella. But this happened last time as well. So far they are still draining fluid from his chest cavity but it is small amounts of 100 mils and the surgeons are saying that the fluid is not the chile but post surgery type of fluid, so we have our fingers crossed on that one. All going well, Zeus will be able to go home with his parents on Friday.

We are all so very greatfull to you all for helping this young very strong family out with the give a little donations. It is money they did not have and any little amount will help.

I'' up date more as it comes in. Regards Uncle Shawn

  • Second Surgery....

      7 March 2015

    Hey everyone

So I had my second BIG surgery today (Wednesday 4th March) because things didn't quite go as planned after the first one...

Everything went well today my surgeon said. She preformed a procedure where she removed the Pericardium which is a membrane thing from around my heart. She also ligated some more of my thoracic duct.

So in English this will stop the liquid from building up in my chest and i'll get back to being a happy, hungry, healthy boy.

So the plan from here is I have to stay at the vet for another week approximately while they monitor the fluid coming out of my chest still. It should take a few days before we will know if the surgery has worked properly.

I would like to thank everyone again for their kind donations to help get me home to my family again. My parents are so grateful for the generosity that people have shown.

    Love Zeus

  • From my hospital Bed..... :-(

    Hi everyone

So I am still here in Palmerston North being looked after by the nice Massey Vet people.

I had my third CT scan yesterday which was okay. I am kind of sick of being made to go to sleep all the time though.

The vet told me that the scan showed another possible branch in my Thoracic Duct which could be causing the problem. It was missed in the first surgery because it is very small and didn't really show up in the second CT scan.

So next Wednesday I am off to the operating room again for another surgery to fix this little branch that was missed.

The vet said they also want to remove whats called the pericardium which is a kind of sack thing around my heart. This will give the surgery a higher chance of success.

The vet has being very helpful to my mum and dad and they have offered to pay for some of the cost of the surgery which was kind.

So including the CT scan yesterday and the surgery on wednesday the cost is an extra $3000. I know mum and dad haven't got a money tree at home, if they did I would have eaten it by now like that lemon tree from there wedding. This will be the last surgery I get so cross your fingers for me please.

Everyone has been so supportive and amazing with the donations given, they mean so much to mum and dad. This will all just be a bad memory that I can look back on with mum and dad in a months time.

    Love,

    Zeus

  • Another Tear in my Duct

      28 February 2015

Hi guys, well it is not good news and it is good news depends on how you look at it. I am still at the vets, but I have had a number of leakages into my chest cavity and this caused some concern from the Vets. I have had a number of mils drawn from my chest and had a CT scan the other day to find that there is another tear somewhere in my chest area. So its back to the operating table for me. My mum and dad have been told it will be Tuesday so now I have been away from home for nearly a full month and I'm homesick. I am still myself, I go out for a small walk depending on what is happening, but I am over these sedation's and not being at home. My mum will update the facebook page keeping you all informed. This operation will be a major test on where we go from here, I have not gained any weight but I'm doing ok. A huge thank you to those still donating towards my care, it is a big relief to know you all care. love Zeus.

  • Still No News

      22 February 2015

Hi guys, well I'm still at the vets, my mum and dad haven't been given a full up date yet on my condition, but it looks like I'm going to be away from them for another week. Mum will post an up date on facebook when the surgeon has contacted them. I was meant to be home today, but I'm still in Palmerston. So hold tight until we find out more. Z...

  • 2 days post Op

      19 February 2015

    Hi everyone,

It's been two days since my surgery. My vet has been monitoring the amount of fluid being produced to make sure the surgery has worked. Yesterday the fluids reduced down to 3mls which was great. I still had a small amount of fluid this morning, nothing of concern, however this afternoon the fluid level spiked to 650mls. My vet is fairly certain that the reason for the sudden spike is because fluid is still draining from the other side of my chest. And I also decided to change my sleeping position so that may have caused the fluid to drain out.

I'm going to have the chest drain in overnight so my vet can keep an eye on me, but hopefully tomorrow they can take it out.

The vets down here at Massey are doing a great job of looking after me and making sure I'm comfortable and cared for.

They said they will let mum and dad know how I am in the morning. I'll keep you posted.

    Love,

    Zeus

  • My Surgery WAS TODAY

      17 February 2015
    Main image

    Hi everyone

Today was the BIG day. My surgeon started preparing me for surgery early this morning and only finished late afternoon. My surgeon tells me that the surgery was very successful and they were really pleased.

I was scheduled to have two procedures performed laparoscopically. The first procedure (thoracic duct ligation) went very well. The second procedure (cisterna chyli ablation) was a bit more difficult as I was bleeding quite a bit. My surgeon decided to abort the laprascopic surgery and use the open surgery method.

This was the best outcome as the surgery was not only successful but they also decided to perform a gastropexy at the same time. That means they tacked my stomach to my abdominal wall so there will be very little chance of any twisted stomach issues in the future.

Mum and dad were so happy and relieved to hear that everything went well. I am a little sore and a bit confused but I will be ok (especially with all the pain meds I am taking). I will be monitored for the next couple of days and if all goes well I can go home with mum and dad this weekend.

Mum and dad are both so grateful for all of the support and donations that have been made, it means so much to them!

    Love

    Zeus

  • Had my operation today

      17 February 2015

Hi guys, This is Zeus's uncle here, I'm still waiting to hear from Zeus's parents as to how the Operation went today. What I do know is that he is doing fine and some life saving stuff has gone on today. When I've heard more I'll let you all know how he is. His mum Jeannie will update the face book page as well. Just rest assured he has had a full on day of surgery and is now in recovery, but doing well. Thanks again for all your donations, we will keep you posted. "The uncle".

  • At Palmerston Vets

Sorry for the delay in updating, but my mum is doing her best to keep the facebook page up and running, so if you are wondering sometimes what is happening just go to my facebook page. Anyways, yesterday I arrived at the vets and I wasn't very happy. I started to shake, my legs felt like they were going to give way as I remembered this place from last time. I looked at my mum and dad and didn't want them to leave me here, but it had been a long ride and I knew that I was in for a hard time. I weighed in at 61kilos, which is a 12 kilogram loss in weight for me over the last two and a half weeks. I'm hungry all the time and not allowed to eat my favourite foods, like tripe and stuff. I've a big day tomorrow and I'm hoping I'll see my mum and dad soon. Night everyone. Zeus

      15 February 2015

Morning Guys, well it was an early morning start for us all Mum and Dad got me out of my bed to start driving to the vets in Palmerston this morning. It was very dark, and mum and dad are travelling straight back again tonight. I have to have more tests tomorrow and the operation so I'll keep you up dated on what is going on. I'm quite safe, just chilling in the back on my blanket. Thank you to all who have started giving donations, Zeus.
