Our page is dedicated to raising funds for the immediate treatment of cervical cancer for my mother, Aster Riki.
Wellington
For the past two years, I have been supporting my family (mother, father & three siblings aged 15, 10 & 7) Ethiopia from afar. However, the recent war in Tigray has made this especially hard. Conflict, financial strain & inadequate access to food were immediate consequences of the war. However, the looting in hospitals & lack of medical resources during the two year conflict has left my mother & countless others without access to essential healthcare.
When access to Tigray resumed, I sent additional funds that I had saved to support my family's wellbeing, including my mother who was suffering from pain. Unfortunately, this pain turned out to be something more serious; stage 4 cervical cancer & she urgently needs treatment.
As a former refugee and university student in New Zealand, my resources are limited. I am unable to afford the treatment that my mother requires, so I am appealing for your help!
The money raised will fund the cost of transport, accommodation & treatment in Thailand, India or Kenya. We are in the process of securing travel documentation & relevant tests to facilitate her travel, however the quotes that we have received show that treatment alone will be upwards of $45,000 in addition to $10,000 for travel & accommodation (incl. support person).
I will continue to update this page as we receive more certainty about her care.
NB: If we are unable to secure the funds needed to cover her treatment, this money will be used to support my family in Ethiopia.
The funds raised will be primarily used to cover the costs of specialised medical treatment, including procedures, medications, consultations, as well as travel and accommodation expenses for my mother, Aster Riki's stage 4 cervical cancer treatment.
