Please help us find/fund a Recovery Angel for Sophia, and ensure her recovery so she can one day turn her vision into reality for NZ.
Waikato
Sophia, 33, is fighting for her life — and she wants to live.
Sophia graduated as a medical doctor in 2019. She became seriously unwell after bacterial meningitis in 2023 and was subsequently diagnosed with FND and ME/CFS. She now lives with severe, debilitating complex chronic illness and is almost permanently bed-bound, unable to manage basic daily life independently.
Early this year Sophia reached crisis point and attempted suicide. She had been in crisis for years, holding on through severe illness, isolation and unable to access the care she needed.
She then spent four months in hospital where she received valuable support, but was discharged because the hospital could not find an appropriate place for her to go, despite her ongoing need for substantial support.
There is currently no facility in New Zealand for someone with Sophia's complex needs.
Her discharge plan for accommodation/support has fallen through, leaving her extremely vulnerable in unsuitable accommodation, with health deteriorating by the day.
So we are creating another pathway.
We seek a Recovery Angel to provide a safe home environment and oversee her overall care and recovery, alongside professional in-home support. Waikato preferably.
Sophia also has a much bigger vision. “When recovered, I want to help create NZ's first rehabilitation sanctuary for other people living with severe complex chronic illness who have nowhere to receive the care they need.”
But first, she needs somewhere safe to land. 💜
Sophia's friend/confidante, we also discuss how miracles DO happen. Given a Recovery Angel and peaceful home, this gifted young woman will heal and recover, and go on to create what has never been done before. I support her through it all.
Recovery Angel financial support (over and above rent/board/food), maintaining a healthy and healing home sanctuary, professional in-home support (eg, OT) and all other supports required for recovery, which could be a few years.
Thank you so much. I've passed this on to Sophia xx
