Urgent Help Needed: Supporting a Young Family in Kapiti Facing Cancer Crisis

  • Start of radiotherapy

      21 December 2024

Kobis battle still continues to amaze us with his strength and resilience.

Kobi is now Physically, mentally and emotionally ready to begin the next stage which is radiotherapy on his brain. He'll receive his first treatments before xmas in Wellington, so the family get to stay home for a gentle Xmas. They are hoping side effects don't have to much of a hold of him xmas day.

Physically he's doing so much better now they are home in Waikanae but his stamina will take longer to recover due to what his bodies been put through this year.

He hopes to continue to bike to school next year but his lungs have a longer recovery time. But he is getting stronger everyday and working on breath work to strengthen his lungs.

2024 has been a stressful year for the family and without your support they wouldn't have been able to give Kobi the things needed to keep his spirit fighting.

Your support went towards comfort items, clothing, food, medical equipment for home. All things they wouldn't have been able to afford. So thank you for thinking of them and allowing Kiri to provide for him. It has been incredibly difficult to maintain but your support kept the home functioning and Tyler feed.

They will be forever grateful for the support you have all shown there family.

Wishing you all a Merry Xmas and have a amazing new year.

    Lot of love from

    Kiri, Kobi and Tyler.

  • Update on Kobi's Fight to Beat This

      7 October 2024
    Main image

Kobi has just completed round 3 of 5 cycles of chemotherapy treatment called TICE. This treatment involves collecting stem cells during the first 2 cycles and reintroducing them in the final 3 cycles. The process has been tough on his body, and unfortunately, he experienced a seizure, which led to another stay in the children's high dependency unit for the second time in a short period.

Kobi has undergone MRI scans between each cycle, and while we’re seeing some shrinkage with edema, there are no new metastases or growth, which is encouraging news. He’s had a week to recover and is now back on the CHOC ward, awaiting results over the next few days. We’re hopeful that he’ll be able to go home for a few days before starting the next round next week.

Thank you so much for following our journey and for all your support. You’ve given us the strength to make Kobi feel like royalty in a place that can sometimes feel unbearable.

Keep sending us your positive vibes.

    Kiri

  • Extending our campaign to support Kobi's fight

      16 September 2024

We’ve made the decision to extend our fundraising campaign and increase our goal by another $5,000 to ensure we can continue providing the support Kobi and his family need during this incredibly challenging time. Kobi has been facing a tough battle lately, with increased swelling in his brain and the rapid growth of his tumors. Despite his unwavering spirit and determination, the medical complications have prolonged his stay in Christchurch, keeping him from home for over a month.

Extending our campaign and pushing for the extra $5,000 will give Kobi’s family the breathing room they need to focus on his recovery without the added stress of mounting expenses. Every contribution will go directly toward helping with these ongoing costs, from travel to hospital stays, as well as helping with basic necessities that have become harder to afford during this time.

Your continued support is making a difference, and with your help, we can reach this new goal. Please consider sharing our campaign with your networks and encouraging others to join in. Every dollar brings us closer to helping this amazing young man in his fight against cancer.

  • Kobi's Courageous Battle: update and how you can continue to help

      16 September 2024

Kobi had a challenging start to the month with migraines, vomiting, and weakness on the left side of his body due to brain swelling. He was admitted to Christchurch’s high-dependency unit for 10 days. After undergoing CT and MRI scans, doctors discovered increased growth in the two tumours despite only a few weeks passing since the previous scans.

Kobi began a high-dose chemotherapy treatment plan earlier this month, which includes stem cell harvesting and transfusions. He will complete this first phase after a small surgical procedure tomorrow. This marks the end of round 2. Following more scans, ultrasounds, and tests, Kobi is set to begin round 3 on the 21st.

Unfortunately, Kobi hasn’t been able to go home in over a month due to complications, but there’s hope he might get a few days at home between the upcoming cycles if everything goes well and there’s no further swelling. Despite the rough treatment and a few minor side effects, Kobi’s spirit remains high. He’s positive and determined to beat this.

Your messages of encouragement fill our hearts, and each donation brings a smile as it shows the incredible love and support surrounding us.

Support through the Raffle: To help with ongoing costs, we're running a calendar raffle! Purchase a ticket for your chance to win and support Kobi and the family during this challenging time.

  • A new challenge in our fight for Kobi

      15 August 2024

We are reaching out with a heavy heart to share an unexpected and difficult turn in Kobi journey. After completing two major surgeries and four rounds of chemotherapy, we were hopeful that the treatment had worked. However, recent MRI scans have revealed that the cancer has returned, this time with multiple tumors in the brain.

This devastating news means that Kiri’s youngest son will need to undergo more intense rounds of chemotherapy, with neurosurgery likely to follow. The ongoing treatments require frequent travel between Waikanae, Wellington, and Christchurch, which adds to the emotional and financial strain. Kiri, as a widow, single mother and full-time caregiver, is unable to work during this challenging time, making it even harder to cover basic necessities and household expenses.

Despite these hardships, they remain determined to fight alongside Kobi every step of the way. The love and support they have received so far have been incredibly uplifting, and they are truly grateful for each and every contribution.

We know that this is a difficult time for many, but any support you can continue to offer—whether it’s a donation, a share, or a kind word—would mean the world to them as we face this next chapter.

Keep an eye out for a large fundraiser also coming soon.

Thank you for standing with us.
