Betty the Bung-Eyed Cat (abandoned by her owner in 2018) needs urgent eyelid surgery from Vetlife Temuka. We need to raise a further $115!

Canterbury

Betty the Bung-Eyed Cat is a dear little 3 year old tabby and an admirable survivor!

In 2018, Betty was abandoned by her owner, left to fend for herself on the wild streets of Temuka. During this time, Betty kept herself well-fed (hunting birds) and well-groomed to the best of her ability, however 'til this day, she suffers with two weeping bung-eyes.

In late 2020, a new human (Thalia) moved into Betty's former home and eventually Betty started circling the property... By February 2021, Betty and Thalia had become acquainted. Betty was cautious and rigid at first, but now she's starting to trust humans again.

In March 2021, Thalia took Betty to Vetlife Temuka for flea and worm treatments, then Betty stayed at Vetlife for a week, while she received antibiotics for her eyes at a cost of $266.48 (receipts attached below this post). Unfortunately that didn't work, as her eyes are still sore and weeping!

In mid-March 2021, the vet informed us that Betty has overgrown eyelids that need surgery, which costs between $400-$800 depending on the length of the surgery and this cost is only confirmed post-surgery. Unfortunately, Thalia's total 2021 budget for Betty caps at around $500 (not including food), so we're hoping that some kind cat-lovers out there may wish to support Betty's eye surgery?

Thalia's Dad (a keen hunter) said he could make a donation to Betty in the form of a quick bullet, but Thalia doesn't have the heart for that, so we're here to appeal to other likeminded people who also feel that an animal's quality of life is worth preserving. Betty is a little sweetheart, so even the tiniest donation would be greatly appreciated.

Just so we're clear, in addition to the $266.48 worth of vet treatments and antibiotics, Thalia has also bought Feliway at a cost of $94.20, but found it wasn't strong enough to keep formerly-stray Betty at bay. We've also trialled a cat litter tray at a cost of $80, but found it didn't work, so now we have a $180 Bissell carpet cleaner for pet stains. As you can see, the costs all add up... $620.68+

Still, we've been blessed to receive $125 worth of cash donations already from generous cat-appreciating friends and family, plus Thalia's thrown another $100 towards Betty's surgery costs too. In less than 24 hours, a range of generous people donated $460 on Givealittle, so now all we need is a further $115 for the surgery to get booked in for next week. Yes, Betty will soon be seeing clearly once more.

If the surgery ends up giving any change out of $800, then we'll donate what's left to Karen at Street Cats South Canterbury, as she supports hundreds of abandoned cats (just like Betty) every year without any government, or council funding.

Who could deny a cute little furry face the care that they need? Not me. If you have the heart to support little Bung-Eyed Betty, then we'd be very grateful and you'd probably get good cat karma for life.

P.S Betty's quite literally the cat that got the cream now. Every night she wakes up multiple times and it looks like she can't believe her luck. She's so deliriously happy, as she slinks over to her bowl where she finds Nood Cat Food on tap 24/7. Her favourite activities include curling up in a furry-tortoise-looking-ball, stretching like she single-handedly invented yoga and meowing for a little care and attention to make up for all those years where she was left out in the cold.

Thank you in advance.

Betty the Bung-Eyed Cat will be the beneficiary of all funds received and it's my job to take care of her before, during and after the surgery. Betty was a stray for 2 years, so it's a challenge to even get her in a cage and safely to the vet.

Use of funds

Vetlife Temuka's overgrown eyelid surgery for cats costs between $400-$800 (depending on the length of the surgery) and this cost is ONLY confirmed post-surgery. We have already raised $460, so we only need a further $115 to go ahead.

Betty's Transformation - Thanks Everyone!  4 May 2021

Hello to Betty's generous donors,

Just a little update to let you know that Betty is in much better shape, as you can see from her before and after pics...

Betty was well-behaved at the vet for a week, then she was well-behaved for a whole week at home with her cone on. After that, she started to be very naughty (climbing up the curtains, defiling my duvet), so I had to set her free, against the vet's orders (she was supposed to stay inside for 2 weeks).

After her tantrum, Betty enjoyed total outdoor freedom for 24 hours, then decided actually inside with me is the better option after all... So after that we spent another quiet week together. Now, Betty's in great shape and I'm going back to the office.

We still have a little medicine donated by Temuka's Vet Life, because Betty doesn't like me putting it her eye and I'm still learning to be a little cruel to be kind. Fortunately we're now getting help to get the medicine in her eye thanks to Claudia (the animal whisperer) from Amore Cafe. So on that note, it looks like Betty's healing journey is drawing to a close.

Thanks again for your help,

Thalia & Betty

P.S I know she looks very grumpy & unimpressed, but that's only because she just doesn't like the pussy-razzi taking photos. She looks very peaceful & content almost all of the time.
