VEX IQ Worlds 2020 - Support SpaceDogs11273A travel to the USA!
Manawatu / Whanganui
The Space Dogs, Team 11273A, qualified 8 December 2019, to compete in the VEX IQ World Championships being held in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, in April 2020.
Bridget and Kyron are an independent robotics team of two, based in Feilding, referred to as the “Space Dogs/Team 11273A”. Formed at the start of this years’ robotics season Bridget and Kyron have taken the central district VEX-IQ robotics community by storm.
At 10 and 11 years old respectively, Bridget and Kyron have recently wowed New Zealand with their robotics skills, winning an unprecedented three awards at the NZ National VEX IQ Championship held on the 7/8 December at the Palmerston North Convention Centre.
These two are passionate about robotics and have dedicated many hours to driving, programming and completing their design diary.
They won the following coveted Vex-IQ Awards:
Robot Skills Champion Award
Teamwork Champion Award
Elementary School Excellence Award
Bridget and Kyron are passionate about Robotics, and have, this season, consistently achieved excellent results. This is evident in their current World Ranking of 5th out of over 3000 teams.
Of the six team representing New Zealand, Bridget is the only female student.
Bridget and Kyron were formerly part of the four strong Manchester Street School “Odderbots” who qualified last year for the Worlds by winning the Excellence Award. They attended the Worlds in April 2019, winning the Judges Award.
Winning the Teamwork Challenge and the Excellence Award means that this outstanding team of two have qualified to attend the VEX-IQ 2020 World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
The VEX-IQ programme provides students with robotics challenges that enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through teamwork, critical thinking, project management and communication skills that prepares them to become the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.
We are immensely proud of Bridget and Kyron. Their achievements and attitude towards other teams was noted by the Judges at the Nationals where they shared their skills to assist and inspire others. Teamwork is fundamental to the VEX-IQ robotics programme, and a valuable skill for these two to carry forward in their lives.
We are fundraising to get the duo to the USA to compete and would be very appreciative of any donation.
The budget to send Bridget and Kyron and supervising adults to the World Championships is over $20,000. We are already proactively seeking funding from New Zealand businesses and other charitable organisations to enable us to reach our financial target.
Thanks so much Jack! We really appreciate your support. Thanks for wishing us good luck!
