Vicki McCall Memorial Prize in Public Law
Auckland
In 2022 the legal community lost one of the country’s best and brightest legal minds, with the death of Vicki McCall, aged just 39, following a medical event.
Vicki was known to many from her work at Crown Law, Russell McVeagh, and Cravath, Swaine and Moore; her studies at both Auckland and Harvard Law Schools; and her years at Rangitoto College.
Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Vicki remember her incisive mind, her sharp wit, and her effortless ability to argue and debate. She was also exceptionally generous with her expertise, wisdom, and support for others.
While Vicki excelled in all her legal pursuits, her passion was public law, where she was in a class of her own.
To honour Vicki’s memory, and with the blessing of her family and the Auckland Law School, a group of Vicki’s former classmates, colleagues, and friends are seeking donations to fund the Vicki McCall Memorial Prize in Public Law. This prize will be awarded annually to the top student in the compulsory Public Law course in Auckland’s LLB degree.
We are hoping that the generosity of those who knew Vicki will enable us to endow this prize to honour her achievements and to remember her for generations to come. We hope that in this small way we can recognise emerging public law stars, while paying tribute to a much-loved and much-missed member of the legal community.
We deeply appreciate any contributions you are able to offer.
Eesvan Krishnan, Abbey Lawson, Kim Laurenson, and Nicole Roughan
Eesvan, Abbey, Kim, and Nicole are former classmates/colleagues and friends of Vicki.
We aim to raise $25,000, the level required to endow the prize. Otherwise, a prize will be established for as many years as possible; or else the funds will be donated to the Law School’s Student Support Fund, which supports students in financial hardship.
