Where would you be without volunteers in your life? Think of a time a volunteer made a massive difference for you or someone you love!

We all know one of those huge hearted people who loves to help others. Volunteers are the glue that holds our communities together – and if they all stopped what they were doing tomorrow, the lights would go out in Te Tai Tokerau.

Volunteers are the people who sit by the bedsides of those who are facing the end of life, offering them support and comfort during their final days.

They are the ones manning the food banks, serving the meals in marae and community cafes, and donating goods to pataka kai, so that people don’t go hungry.

In recent tragic weather events, volunteers dropped everything to provide shelter and safety to their communities.

We want to celebrate these outstanding members of our community! We need help to make a very special event possible – an event that will create memories and make them feel appreciated: the Te Tai Tokerau Kaimahi Aroha | Volunteer Awards!

We are launching this appeal during “National Volunteer Week” but what makes this year really significant is that 2026 is “International Year of the Volunteer”! Together with many others around the world, we want to make sure that everyone knows how much volunteers contribute to our society.
