Let’s get behind the Waitara Community Childcare to raise funds to rebuild our centre! Every dollar counts & means so much to us all here

Waitara, Taranaki

The Waitara Community Childcare Centre is a community based service that provides care to children in Waitara.

In February this year, we were unexpectedly served with 90 days notice to vacate our premises, which was leased from Toitu Te Whenua Land Information NZ (LINZ) due to the discovery of mold.

The Ministry of Education stepped in to close the Centre almost immediately, due to H & S reasons, which left 50 children & their families without childcare arrangements & the WCCC team scrambling to find somewhere to go.

Luckily we found temporary facilities to allow the centre to continue. A special thanks to the Waitara Playcentre for accommodating us in the short term, and to the North Taranaki Sport & Recreation Hub for allowing us a 12 month lease of their building.

Please, if you or anyone you know is able to donate to our cause, we would be forever grateful. We know times are tough, but every donation, big or small will be very gratefully received & will go directly towards the building of a NEW Centre for our community.

Please share this page around, let’s see how much we can raise for our tamariki!

The Centre has been providing, growing & developing our preschool children for 36 years & is a treasured part of the community. It is run by a dedicated & passionate team of Kaiako, many of whom have been apart of the centre for over 20 years.

Lets get behind this team, the cause & our children to make sure we can continue caring, teaching & developing over the many years to come.

Waitara & Districts Community Child Care's involvement (page creator)

Together we are a group of past & present parents, who alongside our amazing & dedicated kaiako team have formed a fundraising committee to ensure our centre can be re-built

This is a mammoth project for us all, one which we are determined to see happen!

About us

At the Waitara and Districts Community Childcare center we believe that it takes a community to care and educate our tamariki.

We view all tamariki as individuals and natural explorers. We recognize the uniqueness of them all and support this through our child-initiated, interest based mixed aged curriculum. With a focus on Tuakana Teina, Akomanga, Ngā Tipuranga, Mana Aroha, Ngā Mātātahi, Ă Tōna Wā and individual care routines.

Our Centre’s greatest asset is our Kaiako, who reflect our philosophy and proven current education theory.

We ensure our team is supported, developed, and respected.

Our home like environment inspires tamariki to make meaningful contributions that reflects their interests, explorations, and creativity.

We actively engage with whānau and the community in collaborative, productive partnership.

We seek aspirations from whānau to assist with decision making to support outcomes for tamariki.

We acknowledge, embrace, and support the diverse culture in our centre and wider community. This allows us to grow and develop alongside our tamariki. We do this through our values and beliefs of Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

Te Whāriki our ECE curriculum is the backbone to everything that we do to empower tamariki to learn and grow as confident, competent learners who develop respectful, responsive, reciprocal relationships.
