Waiwaste Food Rescue
We are an active food rescue group committed to reducing food waste and food poverty in the Wairarapa.
We think it's crazy that food is dumped while people go hungry.
Our aim is simple: rescue edible food products that would otherwise be dumped.
We do this by collaborating with food producers, retailers and wholesalers who donate surplus food that is good enough to eat but not good enough to sell. Waiwaste volunteers collect the food and redistribute it to agencies that work with vulnerable people.
Waiwaste is now well known in the Wairarapa, as a food rescue group that cares about people and our earth. Formed in 2015 we are now collecting over a tonne of food a week, all with volunteer's vehicles. Contributions to our running costs, and the big dream of an electric vehicle to collect food, will help us to continue making a difference.
