Help support Theresa walk the world by completing the London Marathon in 2026.
Waikato
Theresa was born with cataracts and developed Glaucoma as a teenager. In addition to her vision impairment, she has a learning disability.
As an adult she has lived on her own with support from Community Living trust in Hamilton. Her flatting companions have also been much loved cats. Family are important to her. She loves spending time with her younger siblings and their children.
About six years ago a friend she knew through Blind Low vision NZ was telling her about Achilles and suggested she went along. It was not long before she started doing half marathons and in 2020 she did a virtual New York marathon completing enough laps to walk 42 km. In 2024 Theresa was able to complete the New York City Marathon in person. Since then Theresa has completed 100 park runs around the Hamilton Lake.
Her goal for 2026 is to walk the London Marathon on 26 April with her guide. This has involved much planning and support to not overwhelm her with information and focus on next steps she needs to do. While her understanding of the world is unique to her, her place in the world is clear. She loves people, doing things for others and her extra special cat who shares her little home with her.
Theresa is excited about going to London, she will never be the fastest person in the field but her dogged determination will always take her to the finish line with a smile and a sense of pride.
Theresa's Mother.
The money will be spent on all cost relating to the London Marathon which includes: Entry Fee, Travel and Shoes for Theresa.
New Closing Date 20 March 2026
We have decided to extend the closing date to 10 April to give people a little more time to make donations. There is a fundraising event coming up on 29 March at the Waikato University, watch out for details here next week or follow Theresa Pooley on Facebook to grab the poster and info.
As always much thanks for your interest and donations. Her family is very proud of Theresa's achievements she has made.
