WASTE-ED WITH KATE: FOLLOW THE BIN

Every day, we put things into our many different bins and trust they’re going somewhere useful.

But where do they actually go?

At Waste-Ed with Kate, we get thousands of comments from people saying recycling is pointless, that it all goes to landfill, or that New Zealand has the worst recycling system in the world.

So we want to keep finding out.

We’re launching Follow the Bin, an independent investigation into what really happens to our waste after the truck drives away.

We’ve already shown that some genuinely effective recycling is happening here in New Zealand through our Proof of Recycling videos, following glass, scrap metal, plastics, paper, tyres, and food and beverage cartons through the system.

But we don’t want to stop there.

We want to follow more everyday items, visit the facilities that process them, meet the people working behind the scenes, and show you the good, the bad and the complicated reality of what actually happens.

We’ve started in New Zealand, but our bigger goal is to take Follow the Bin around the world, comparing how different countries deal with waste, what they do better, what they struggle with, and what we can learn from each other.

Ultimately, we want to bring those stories together into a global documentary.

Every donation helps us research, travel, film and create independent waste education that everyone can access.
