We are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to bring about the long-term benefit of reliable water supply.
Taranaki
Tabalei Village is located in Fiji, about 1.5 hours drive from Nadi by metal road inland in Viti Levu (Main Fijian island).
The water supply comes via a dam and a damaged concrete water tank - both between 30-40 years old - built in the hills above the village. Last year water testing was conducted which proved safe, yet there have been intermittent outbreaks of typhoid and other water-borne diseases.
During the dry season (March - October) water levels can run dangerously low some months have no rainfall at all, and the water flowing into the village can be unsafe to drink - especially for the elderly and the very young.
Our group, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Fiji, hope to replace the existing dam and damaged water tank, to provide a long-term solution for the people of Tabalei and their water supply - ensuring the health and well-being of the community for years to come.
I am helping lead a team of youth from Taranaki to Tabalei Village in July 2018, as part of this we are fundraising to help improve the water system used by the village to make it safe to drink.
The money will go towards labour, tools and resources required to replace the dam and water tank.
