Water4Kids - providing clean drinking water for kids and families in front line war zone in Ukraine

The needless destruction of basic infrastructure in Ukraine has meant that water sources have become increasingly polluted resulting in growing humanitarian crisis among thousands of families with children in Ukraine. With the loss of the Kherson dam, reservoir, pump stations and reticulation systems, whole cities are without clean water.

The line of active military engagement is termed the Zero line. In many regions this is where the poorest families live – they cannot leave.

Enter Ukrainian / Canadian Olesya Shyvikova - Ukrainian immigrant, linguist, journalist, and film-maker, currently resident in Canada. Through Olesya, Water4Kids gains direct contact with families and children.

The units we are proposing are simple. Two stainless steel containers, one sits on top of another, the bottom one has a stainless-steel tap. The top provides filtration by a multilayered ceramic candle that gravity feeds polluted water through the candle dripping clean potable water into the bottom.

The Water4Kids project aims to raise the funds to purchase 3500 units.

The water purification units will be purchased from overseas (samples have been tested in NZ) and will be distributed with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland to the zero lines in three provinces.
