  • Thank you!

    Kia ora koutou,

Ngā mihi nunui ki a koutou katoa i te aroha, i te putea tautoko hoki. Hello everyone, a huge thank you for your love and donations.

A final update as this page closes. My parents and family have been overwhelmed by the generosity that’s been shown over the past month. The phone calls, the check ins, but especially the generosity of people on this page, many of whom haven’t personally met them but are friends of another family member.

With your donations, whether $5 or more, my parents have purchased the lift chair I spoke of last update, paid for petrol to and from physio appointments at the hospital, and topped up their insurance payout from their old car to buy a replacement car that they feel safe driving in. Thank you, thank you, thank you. To watch my mum happily drive again after what happened is so cool.

Dad’s wandering around the house on crutches and even went to watch some darts the other night, although he uses a wheelchair in crowded places to avoid being knocked. Life is getting back to normal and I felt so lucky this past weekend when Dad, with no assistance but his crutches, wandered outside to join me in the sun for a cuppa.

There’s still a way to go before they’re fully healed, but they’re surpassing the physio expectations and it feels like the biggest challenges have been left behind. Thank you for caring for my family, thank you for the donations, and thank you for all the support that has been shown in many other forms.

    Ngā mihi, Acushla x

My family has been overwhelmed with the support shown in the last couple of weeks. People reaching out to lend a hand, messages of love, and of course, the unbelievable generosity you’ve shown with your donations. Kāore he kupu.

I’m excited to let you all know that Dad has been cleared to come home today!! The surgery went really well and like a boss he stood up 2 days later. Last Thursday he was flown to Taranaki Base and Mum’s been prepping the house with wonderful support by friends and family. Dad’s walking around with the use of crutches now, very VERY slowly, but has surprised most of the medical and physio staff at how quickly he’s progressing. Mum’s settled in at home and we’re just finishing the last of the changes we need to make to the house to make sure it’s a safe place for him to recover.

I’m so happy to let you all know that the majority of the funds you’ve donated are going towards a chair for Dad that’ll make his recovery so much more comfortable. It’s a ‘Lift La-Z-Boy’ that is super adjustable but can also stand up which will help Dad when he’s getting in and out of it over the next wee while. With the biggest injury being on his pelvis the ability to adjust the back and legs will hopefully give him the relief he’s found using the controls on the hospital beds. The rest of the funds so far are earmarked on groceries and helping to get Mum and Dad a new, safe, comfortable car that’ll allow Dad to get out and about when he’s ready. Mum and I took a car down to the hospital today to see how he managed to get in and out and although it was clearly painful, he seemed really happy, especially when we said it had a 5 star safety rating.

There will never be enough words to thank you all for the generosity you’ve shown my family, just know you’re always welcome for a cuppa if you’re ever in town. From the bottom of our hearts, ngā mihi nunui e te whānau whānui.
